Wishcraft – How to get what you really want

This book came to me almost by accident – I had added it to my shopping cart while I was on Amazon but had decided against purchasing it.  I then forgot to remove it, so when I was purchasing some technology items a couple of weeks later, along came this book as well. 

Initially I was irritated at ‘wasting the money’, but then I decided to have a look through it and was really pleasantly surprised, and now Wishcraft: How to Get What You Really Want is one of my favourite books.

The exercises in the book are great and very original.  For me, I found the most useful idea was barn-storming.  The idea of pulling together a group of friends or colleagues for an evening or a couple of hours and explaining what you want to achieve and then let the magic happen.  I love this idea for many reasons, but I think it is particularly useful for sole-traders and small business owners who are looking for fresh ideas.  I am constantaly reminded that many heads are better than one at Women Unlimited, and I for one will be using barn-storming regularly in my business.

The first half of the book is about finding what you are looking for (you may also want to look at Finding Your Own North Star: How to Claim the Life You Were Meant to Live ) but if you already have an idea about where you want to go and what you want to do but don’t know how to get there, this book will be a fantastic resource for you.

The premise of the book is that you cannot get what you want unless you have done the wishing you need. So the first part of the book takes you through a series of exercises designed to get you to dream your wildest dreams about your life and what it could be. It is both powerful and freeing to do this. Barbara Sher also gives you ways to distinguish between ‘real’ dreams (the ones you really truly want) and fantasies (things you just think you want).
